The specifics for tackle vary a great deal. There are users of heavy tackle and those of light tackle. Heavy tackle bags fewer but bigger fish, medium to light tackle brings big bags not necessarily of small fish. It’s great fun, though.

Heavy tackle: A 3-4 lb. test curve medium action rod and line rated for 20-30 lbs. Reels should have good drags, preferably low gear ratios, multipliers and spinning reels. A 50-lbs.-wire leader for big catfish is not recommended… it is a compulsion. You need good swivels and heavy-duty hooks of sizes 3/0 to 6/0 short-shank

A large variety of lures' work, but they are mostly dependent on the water conditions. Spoons from 1 to 4 inches in assorted patterns. We swear by copper and silver Toby, Mepps No. 4 and bigger spinners and spoons. Natural plugs such as Perch, Pike, Golden Shiner and Rainbow trout patterns also find favor.

Light tackle: A 6-10’ rod, line rated 6-12 lbs., spinners, and small spoons. Bait fishing requires hook from size 8 to1/0.

Fly-fishing tackle: Big mahseer do not commonly take a fly, but we’ve caught them to 12 lbs. and it is a frightening experience. Bait fish and smaller carps provide endless fun on light fly tackle using natural patterns such as Caddis, Mayfly spinners and nymphs and hoppers also work well.

A 6 weight rod, floating or sinking line, 2-3X leader, 100-200 yards of 20 lb. backing. Muddler Minnows and other lure type streamers in the larger sizes also work well. Most salmon flies work, Jock Scott and Silver Doctors especially. A 9-12 weight rod is required for bigger fish, sinking line and 20 lb. leaders, 300 yards of 30lb backing.
